Hole in My Heart

about

Them Sinners January song of the month … I never viewed Sisyphus as a tragic tale. Work! Go on a van tour! Have kids! The older I get, honestly, the more normal it seems. It’s all in a day’s life. There’s a buzz in that clenched teeth fix as you watch the damn boulder fall down over and over … Sometimes, songwriting is hard, but lately, these damn explanations of songs are the hard part. It’s fun when they flow, but lately they’re work. Unglamorous, unpaid, cranky and a sign that I should get back to whatever is currently working for me … This song was co-written with fellow Sinner Al Maddy (our first Sinners co-write???). I met Al Maddy in 1998. My band at the time had hired him as a percussionist, which is funny, as I’ve never seen him play percussion— or even mention it since. He’s a legitimate beast— a guitarist extraordinaire, and one of the most talented people I’ve ever met, with a limitless supply of ideas and influences which makes lifting that boulder every morning that much more satisfying.

“There’s a hole in my heart that’s new …” Sisyphus might dig that.

lyrics

There’s a hole in my heart that’s new
It stole the car that took me to you
There’s a hole in my heart that’s new
Tire tracks I’ve been rolled under

I can’t see you for free
And my heart blames it on me
A needle sent to discover
Where do you go with the other?

There’s a hole in my heart that’s true
hanging wires and running for cover
There’s a hole in my heart that’s true
Contract you like no other

I can’t place you for days
Cause my heart gets in the way
A needle sent to discover
Where do you go with the other?

There’s a hole in my in my heart that’s blue
Stripped like a crack up in the ceiling
Spitting rhymes n revealing
I don’t wanna be the type
To never take my advice
That’s blue

There’s a hole in my heart that’s due
To connect the other
There’s a hole in my heart that’s you
I’m falling under

That’s where I put the parts of you
There’s a hole in my heart that’s blue
